Publish a survey
A survey asks the whole room something alongside the Q&A. It appears above the questions on every phone and on the projector. Administrators and moderators run surveys from the Surveys panel on a room’s console.
The kinds
- Choice: a poll with 2 to 8 options of up to 80 characters each. Single choice takes one answer; Multiple choice takes any number, so its percentages, which are of respondents, can add up to more than 100%.
- Quiz: a single-choice question with one option marked as correct. The correct answer is shown after the quiz closes, only while its results are shared. There are no individual scores or leaderboards.
- Rating: a scale of 1–5 or 1–10, with optional labels for the low and the high end. Results show how many people chose each point, and the average.
- Word cloud: each participant sends one response of 1 to 40 characters. The same response from several people, in any letter case, grows larger in the cloud.
A survey question can be up to 200 characters, and a room holds up to 50 surveys.
Draft, then launch
- Select New survey and choose the kind under Survey type: Choice, Rating, Quiz or Word cloud. Each starts with an example to overwrite.
- Write the Survey question, then the options or the scale. Add option adds a choice.
- Participants see results is ticked for every new survey, which shares the results with the room. Untick it to keep the results to yourself; you can change it later.
- Select Create survey. The survey is saved as a draft: nobody sees it yet, and you can still Edit it, or remove it with Delete survey in its … menu.
- Select Launch when you want the room to answer. Launching needs an open room, so you can prepare drafts in an upcoming room and launch them during the session. Once launched, the question and its choices can no longer be changed.
Several surveys can be live at once. Each appears on the phones and the projector, in the order you launched them.
What participants see
- Before answering: the question with its choices, or a box for a word cloud response, and Answer. Answers are final; nobody can change theirs once it is sent.
- After answering, with results shared: the results so far. While a poll, quiz or rating is live, only people who have answered it see them, and the projector shows them when you close it.
- After answering, with results not shared: their own answer, and a note that the results are hidden unless you share them.
- Word clouds work differently: with results shared, everyone sees the cloud grow, including on the projector, whether or not they have responded. Unticking Participants see results takes the words off the phones and the projector while people can still respond. You can also hide any single response with Hide, in the list of Responses under the survey.
Close a survey
Select Close survey to stop taking answers. Closing the room closes every live survey at the same moment. Once a survey with shared results closes, everyone sees its results, on the phones and the projector, and a quiz shows its correct answer.
A closed survey cannot be reopened. To ask it again while the room is open, choose Duplicate as a draft in this room from its … menu.
Take a survey off the screens
While no survey is live, the phones and the projector keep showing the survey you closed last, or every survey that closed with the room. Launching another survey takes its place.
To take a closed survey down sooner, select Remove from screens. It leaves every phone and the projector; nothing is deleted, and its results stay on your console and in the room’s Report. Show again puts it back. A survey a newer one has replaced says “No longer on screens: a newer survey took its place.” and cannot return to the screens.
Where the results appear, and how to export them, is in View survey results.
